Hello Bloggers and Welcome Back! Today, we are going to take a look at some past films that AICE Media Students have submitted. I will also talk closely in-depth about the strengths and weaknesses within their films down below.
Roll Call:
In this scene, I love how they capture the essence of every detail going on from beginning to end, with so many different shots like a low-angle shot as the person is walking to create suspicion. Furthermore, I like how they included the different credits on the side because it really helps to make it look just like an actual production. Also along with the visuals, the sound mixing really helps increase and create greater suspension. They could have improved with the video quality because it was a little blurry throughout.
New Everything:
In this film, they did a really nice job with the transitions and the fading in and out of different scenes. In addition, they did a really good job with capturing the sound of the different footsteps, the heart throbbing, etc, to really help this scene come all together. The switching in and out of the song was also really good. Things they could work on was adding more sound in the background to give off a sense of realism but this is also a good thing as it contributes to a sense of isolation.
Dreamland:
I love how they capture the lovely essence of nature in their film, blowing the leaves with the wind and how they incorporated several different camera angles. They did a great job with the sound as well as it gives off such a lovely and peaceful atmosphere towards the audience. They also utilized Mise en scene really good with the person walking into the store being in a hoody elaborating on the suspicions. Also including the sounds of her picking up all the different medications helps us to feel like we are there. Honestly, I really like this film and I don't think there are any weaknesses within it.
Dear Lover:
Dear lover is very compelling compared to the last two student videos. In this film opener, the techniques that were used helps create the joy and excitement to see what is going to happen next, they created such an intriguing piece. An example of this is the adult version where it perfectly showcases the journey through personal growth and leads off in such a good way that can further development the excitement. Even though this film presents strengths, their are also weaknesses as well. I feel like the production could have improved when it comes to the design of the set. With such a romantic theme, I feel like the scene should have had a more engaging and audience directed environment to help catch their attention. This production could be guaranteed better overall with fixing the design and props to allow the audience to be more captivated into the film.
Dare to Thrill:
Dare to thrill is honestly one of the perfect examples I have seen so far. With so many elements so structured like the sound and audience engagement, there are no obvious weaknesses. The visuals are very impressive and smoothly filmed with capturing things like the subject driving a car. This project felt very smooth and well done with utilizing so many carious angles and shots. When the teenagers had ran towards the black car in the parking garage, they captured that whole chaotic scene so efficiently even though so much was happening at once. This builds lots of excitement and uses very good technical skills. The editing is also really good as it emphasizes the different emotions that are occurring throughout the film. Overall, I really love how they incorporated so much thought into this film and helped everything piece together so smooth all throughout.
Alright that's a wrap bloggers thank you so much for taking the time and reading my personal thoughts on all of these different student films. My partner Marcus and I have very exciting news and we will discuss this more in depth in the next blog!
