Mis En Scene

Greetings fellow bloggers and welcome back to my blog. Today we are going to be focusing on this element in filming called Mis-en-scene and basically, it refers to many different attributes within a film such as costume, actors, lighting, props, etc. For Mis-en-scene, just like the previous posts, I am going to pick a movie in this case, Spider-Man No Way Home, and I will go into the specifics of the different attributes that are put in a film all together, so pretty much everything that the audience can see on screen is included in the Mis-en-scene. In these shots, you will see the chaotic battles that arise between Spider-Man and the Green Goblin and how he is fighting for his life and his friends. I will include 5 screenshots below and talk about one attribute overall in the movie.

Lighting:
At first, the lighting is very dark and cloudy in this scene as it is trying to really show that this villain is sneaking up on Spider-Man. This is one of the many examples of how lighting plays a key role in the development of the movie. It could be dark to show someone hiding, to highlight something closing, to show that we are moving into another scene like a laptop or a door. Lighting overall allows the audience to portray specific details more efficiently.
Costume:
Costume is a significant part of the film-making process as it reflects how the audience will interpret the characters either as a protagonist or antagonist. In this case, we see that Spider-Man has different heroic colors in his costume such as red and blue elaborating on the fact that he is a character of justice and showing his protagonist character.

                             Framing:
Framing is a very important component as it is the positioning of actors and helps to pick up all the actions being made towards the audience. In this case, it is showing the epic ending battle of the movie, and having the framing at such a wide view helps to show and visualize the fight between Spider-Man and the Green Goblin. Framing just really helps adds on to the depth and suspense of this battle.

                            Location/Setting:

The location is crucial to the whole production process as it allows us to see the actual general place where it is being filmed and the realism behind it. Setting, is just like location, but it adds more specifics to where the scene is being filmed, in this case, we can see the Statue of Liberty, showing where the war is taking place which is the setting, and the location is New York City. So, when you think of location it is always the general location and setting is the specific part of the state or city.
                             Scenery:

Finally, we have scenery which is a key component of the production to allow a particular setting to look a certain way. In this shot, we can see the breaking of the universes to show the chaos that is being unveiled in this clip and also to show the urgency as Spider-Man has to make a very important decision that will change his whole world from how he knows it now. This is such a powerful scene and really helps to elaborate on how scenery is so important to help show what is going on in specific shots.

Cloud 9 Movie Mood Board

Welcome Back Bloggers! Today I have had the pleasure of making a mood board on one of my favorite childhood movies, Cloud 9, and I am here to show you how the movie feels to me. Also, in this mood board, you will see different visuals that are related to the emotional feelings in the movie and the impact it has in making the movie come all together. If you have never watched this movie, it is based in a snow city and is about two people who started falling in love together and they are trying to win a snowboarding competition using a trick which is called Cloud 9.  This movie, especially with the snowboarding is really the reason why it is one of my favorite shows because I love the atmosphere, and it is such a different nice environment from living in Florida. In the mood board, I incorporated lots of pictures to really get the main point of the story through and I will explain more in-depth later on.

Now that we talked about the general concept of the movie, I will talk more about different aspects of the movie that are presented in the mood board. In this mood board, I have compiled 15 different pictures which for the most part we can see that it really covers the concept of the setting with being in a snowy town. Plus, I put different pictures to really capture the thrill and excitement that is felt in the movie as well as the love feeling between
the two main characters. I personally love movies that occur in winter weather so I also included some pictures of the pretty winter skies that also go with the movie. The whole movie was based around a snowboarding competition which had a big climax, but the two main characters won at the end so, I put a picture of snowboarders who won a competition to show the happiness in the moment. In one of the scenes, the owner of the pet shop was walking the dogs in the snow which is why I added something related to that to show the context in the movie. Finally, I included lots of familiar pictures of the snow town where the movie's setting took place and the bright, lively feelings behind it. Overall, this shows the real moral that this show presents along with all the feelings that are composed in it. Thanks for reading and I will see you in the next blog!

Sound Story

 Sound Story

Hello Bloggers and welcome back to my blog! Within the last week, I have had the pleasure of creating two different videos, with my friend Marcus, that had to do with the topic of someone running late for school. In the first video, we captured different sounds to make this story possible. I collected sounds of a fridge opening and closing, to show the character grabbing a quick snack before he has to leave. I also recorded a door opening and closing to show that the character is leaving his room to go downstairs and leave his house. My fellow classmate Marcus, created sounds of footsteps that he used both on wooden and marble floors to really track the character's footsteps in the scene and further express the rapid pace occuring. He also recorded his bookbag shaking to show that the character is picking it up and is about to leave. The second video is called a Foley Video, and basically, it was us recording actual visuals and how we made the different sounds presented in the first video. We used the editing software IMovie to put these whole videos together and the extra sounds that had been used were used from YouTube.

Now that I have discussed an overview of these two videos, I will tell you about the experiences behind this and different obstacles that we faced in the process.

Furthermore, this has really opened my mind up to how it is possible to create a whole story with just some sounds and it was really entertaining making these sounds and putting it all together. We had some problems with editing and trying to bridge everything in with good timing and sound but we edited it a lot and the final product turned out really good. At first, I had made the sounds too gentle so I created different clips where I made the sounds more aggressive in order to really capture the scenery and emotion behind these clips. I honestly enjoyed thinking of different ways to make the sounds and trying to think outside the box to help the story flow. This was a great opportunity to learn more about these different sounds that can be made and what they can portray as well, allowing films to come together as a whole. I learned a lot of different strategies that we can use in editing softwares to allow these different sounds to come together and really help create a description of all the noises that happen in our day-to-day lives. I hope you guys have enjoyed it and I will see you in the next blog!
